Building a Stronger Anaheim Through Community Engagement

Anaheim is a city rich in diversity and community spirit, where numerous organizations work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for its residents. These groups foster unity, promote civic engagement, and celebrate our shared culture.

Community Organizations Making a Difference

SOMOS Anaheim is a community group dedicated to fostering unity and progress in Anaheim. Since organizing a peace march in 2012, they have coordinated various service learning opportunities, neighborhood beautification projects, and community-building events. Their initiatives include the Canastas for College Anaheim project, providing college essentials to deserving high school seniors, and the annual Día de los Muertos: A Night of Community and Culture event. Their efforts are driven by a love for Anaheim and a desire to make the city the best it can be for all residents. [Source: SOMOS Anaheim]

Anaheim Community Foundation (ACF) has been a catalyst for positive change since 1984. ACF empowers local organizations and initiatives that strengthen the community, enhance quality of life, and create lasting impact for Anaheim residents. Through careful stewardship of donations and strategic partnerships, ACF supports areas like youth development, arts, education, and civic engagement. Their mission is to build community through people, partnerships, and pride. [Source: Anaheim Community Foundation]

Engaging with the Community

Residents can participate in various programs and events offered by these organizations. For instance, the Anaheim Community Foundation provides grants and scholarships to support charitable causes, including youth scholarships and Helping Hands Grants. Their funding priorities focus on helping Anaheim residents in need, engaging at-promise youth and teens in positive activities, improving mental health, promoting arts, culture, and learning, providing emergency assistance, and supporting workforce development programs. Additionally, the Anaheim Human Services Network serves as a platform for sharing information and resources between service agencies to strengthen the overall provision of service delivery and support to Anaheim residents. The network meets monthly and brings together over 80 community and non-profit agencies. [Source: Anaheim Human Services Network]

Upcoming Community Events

Anaheim hosts a variety of community events throughout the year. For example, the Downtown Anaheim Association organizes the Anaheim Certified Farmers’ Market every Thursday from 11 AM to 3 PM, offering residents access to fresh produce and local goods. [Source: Downtown Anaheim Association]

By engaging with these organizations and participating in community events, residents can contribute to building a stronger, more connected Anaheim. Together, we can continue to foster a city that values unity, progress, and cultural celebration.
