Empowering Educators with AI
The TGR Foundation’s inaugural AI Externship gathered 25 Orange County educators at the TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim. Over three consecutive Fridays, participants collaborated with peers, learned from professionals, and engaged in discussions to prepare students for the evolving workforce. The program included guest speakers, panel discussions, hands-on activities, and visits to local institutions like Providence Mission Hospital and University Lab Partners. Post-externship surveys indicated that 95% of participants felt more equipped to support students toward future careers in AI-related fields.
AI in Traffic Management
Anaheim has implemented the Autoscope OptiVu, an advanced AI-powered traffic management system developed by Econolite. This system enhances traffic flow and safety for all road users by utilizing real-time video detection to monitor various street users. Local partners, including Caltrans and the Orange County Transportation Authority, are leveraging this technology to improve traffic management and emergency vehicle responsiveness, contributing to safer roadways across the region.
Recognizing AI Integration in Schools
The Anaheim Union High School District has been recognized for integrating AI into classrooms while prioritizing student voice in decision-making. The district completed its Student AI Framework with input from student interns and established an AI Workgroup to shape AI usage across the district. AI is introduced through career technical education pathways, starting in junior high and continuing into high school programs focused on areas such as cybersecurity and engineering. Multilingual AI town halls have also been hosted to engage families and gather community input.
Through these initiatives, Anaheim is demonstrating a commitment to leveraging AI for educational advancement and improved city services, ensuring a future-ready community.
