You can save on airfare if you’re willing to wait to book your Thanksgiving trip, new details revealed by AAA.
Buffalo, N.Y. — Seven weeks until Thanksgiving. Do you have your flight? According to AAA, you can save money if you’re willing to wait until closer to Turkey Day to make a reservation.
The agency said the most expensive day to fly during Thanksgiving will be Sunday, Nov. 20. The busiest day at the airport is Tuesday the 22nd, while the cheapest day for flights is Thanksgiving, November 23rd.
While 28-60 days are the most expensive, travelers will have better options. On average, people who book a Thanksgiving trip this week will pay $543 per ticket. If you wait and book two weeks ago, the price drops to an average of $474 per seat. So, if you can be flexible, you can save money, but you may not get your preferred flight.
AAA lists the most popular destinations for Thanksgiving, such as Orlando, New York, Anaheim, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas and Las Vegas. But wherever you go, AAA public relations director Elizabeth Carey says be prepared for the crowd.
“International airports across the country have been very, very busy,” she said. “Autumn used to be a low season, but now it’s its own travel season. A lot of people love to travel in the fall, especially couples. If the kids are at school, if you don’t have kids, some venues aren’t as busy, but we’ve seen this year, it’s It’s becoming a travel season of its own, people are looking to get out and they’re willing to travel.”
