A white supremacist mass murderer whose sentencing hearing was interrupted by an audience member rushing towards him has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Peyton Gendren, 19, Admitted to killing 10 black people Racially Motivated Attack at a Supermarket in Buffalo, New York, May 2022, and Domestic Terrorism Charges.
Earlier in the hearing, Chandron was briefly led away from the courtroom after a man rushed at him and had to be restrained.
He rushed to Gendron, who was sitting at a table with his lawyer, while Barbara Massey, whose sister was among those killed in the racist attack, gave a victim impact statement.
When Ms Massey screamed at Gendron, the man stood up and walked behind her, then pushed her aside and ran a few steps towards Gendron before police and lawyers grabbed him.
Police grabbed Gendron and chased him out of the courthouse as the man who rushed towards him was surrounded by police and led away.
The man’s identity is not yet known.
This comes after a day of emotional testimony in court, with impact statements from several relatives of those killed.
Gendron later apologized to those affected by his actions, telling the court: “I am terribly sorry for all the pain I have forced on all victims and their families.
“I cannot express how much I regret all the decisions that led to my actions on May 14th. I did a horrible thing that day. I shot people because they were black.”

He targeted a supermarket in a black Buffalo neighborhood 200 miles from his home with the intent to kill as many black people as possible with an assault weapon, the court said.
The victims ranged in age from 20 to 86 and included employees and customers.
He still faces 27 federal charges, with attorneys seeking a plea deal to avoid a possible death sentence.
Gendron’s sentencing comes days after the latest high-profile mass shooting in the U.S. state of Michigan, saw three people killed Five others were injured.
