Anaheim — Jose Suarez of the Los Angeles Angels lost a perfect game in the seventh inning when the Texas Rangers’ Marcus Semien led with a single.
Suarez had more trouble in the inning, Nathaniel Lowe hitting a two-run homer in right field to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
The Venezuelan left-hander threw 77 overs and struck out five as the top 18 hitters retired.
It was the first time Suarez went without a hit in six innings. The minimum number of hits he has allowed in a game before was two, which has happened twice this season.
There hasn’t been a perfect game in the majors since Seattle’s Felix Hernandez pitched one on Aug. 8. Jan. 15, 2012, vs. Tampa Bay.
Suarez is struggling for the Angels’ second no-hitter of the season. Los Angeles rookie Reid Detmers did it on May 10 against the Rays. Shohei Ohtani had no hits in the eighth inning Thursday night against Oakland.
There are two other no-hitters this season, four New York Mets five pitchers against Philadelphia on April 29, and six Houston Astros three pitchers against the New York Yankees on June 25.
